 The commercial 500kW Wave Star machine
Wave Star Energy's next goal is to produce the first series-produced 500 kW wave machine for the big oceans.
In September 2009 the first 40 m long test section
of 500 kW machine was installed in the North Sea off Hanstholm. After
extensive testing and optimization the 500 kW machine will be fully
deployed. The full 500 kW machine is expected to be finished and ready
for sale in 2011/12.
500 kW machine is 70
meters long and has a total of 20 floats, each with a diameter of 5
meters. Wave Star Energy expects to locate the first machine
approximately 1 km. in the North Sea at Hanstholm, where it will
provide 500-1000 households with electricity.
The
annual production of the machine will depend on the final machine's
power. The work with the optimization of the machine will
increase the power per float. The final commercial Wave Star machine
is expected to be between 500 kW and 1 MW.
